Printshop FAQ
Spool & Spindle no longer carries fabric or notions, or holds classes, and yes, we are still pretty bummed about it. Keep reading for info about our sewing pattern printing services.
SHIPPING
Flat rate shipping with Canada Post within Canada & the US.
Orders over $125 ship free in Canada, and orders over $200 ship free to the US.
Local Delivery is available for Kitchener and Waterloo ONLY.
Orders over $125 can be delivered for free.
Local Pickup is free, for any size of order.
See our Shipping Policy for pricing and details.
Please note: Canada Post service levels have been pretty great lately, yay! During holidays there might still be delays. Otherwise most tracked parcels within ON/QC arrive 1-3 business days after mailing, or 3-5 business days to the rest of Canada. Lettermail typically takes 3-5 business days, but it may take up to 7. At this time, there is nothing we can do about the length of shipping transit time.

PRINT FORMATS
We love large format prints! We print on really large paper that's a heavier weight than typical tissue patterns. And we print on a roll, so we can print any length of page, up to 36" wide.
We are only able to print Copyshop and A0 sized files. Unfortunately, we cannot stitch together letter-sized pages into a large format pattern. Sometimes you can ask the designer can send you the large format version, if it didn't arrive with your initial pattern order.
Not sure what we are talking about? Here's our explainer for the difference between Copyshop (A0) and Print-At-Home (Letter-Sized) patterns.
Here's what you will get from us:
- For Kitchener pickup and local delivery, we roll your prints in a tube. Just leave a note if you'd rather have them folded!
- For Toronto pickup, prints will be folded.
- And for shipped orders, you can choose whether to have your prints folded or, for a few dollars extra, rolled.
PDF PRINTING
For PDF prints, each page (36" x 48") costs $5.00. Most patterns are 1-3 pages, though occasionally they are more. If you can't tell how many pages your file is, just guess and we can figure that out for you! If you purchase too few pages we will invoice you for the difference; if you purchase too many we will refund you the overage.
We print on a roll, so if a page is shorter or longer than 48", that's okay too! Any file with width up to 36" works. We may adjust your order total for pages that are much less or much more than 48" long.

To submit your patterns on our website, follow our handy step-by-step guide:
-
Step 1: Navigate to our Pattern Printing page (PDF Pattern Printing in the main menu)
-
Step 2: Click on the PDF Printout listing
-
Step 3: Click Choose File, which will bring up a menu of options from your computer
-
Step 4: Choose the file you want printed, and click "Open". Not sure which file? Choose the PDF file that says A0, Copyshop, Wide Format, Printshop, Large Format, or Arch E. Upload just one file per cart item. If you select a second file, it will replace the first.
-
Step 5: Let us know what we're printing! Include the pattern name, and any printing instructions in the printing notes (request colour printing, or ask for only specific size layers or pages to be printed).
-
Step 6: Choose the number of pages your file is. (Not sure? No problem! We'll invoice you for any extra, or refund you if it's not as long as you thought!)
-
Step 7: Choose how many copies of the print you want.
-
Step 8: Click Add To Cart. This pattern is ready, and you can either close the cart and upload another pattern, or check out.
-
Step 9: Once you click Check Out, you can choose your shipping option.
For Kitchener-Waterloo local pickup, or Toronto bundle pickup, choose "Pickup in store". Then you can click on the location to see the other options and change your pickup location.
For Toronto pickup, the date of the next bundle is listed for each location.
For shipping, choose "Ship" and enter your address, then scroll down to see the shipping methods available in your area.
NOTE: if you are paying with ShopPay, ApplePay, or GooglePay, you must choose the shipping option after selecting the payment method. If you choose here, then click on a button for one of those payment methods, your shipping will reset to the default.
GENERAL FAQ
Can I add something to my order?
Absolutely! Please email us with the file(s) and any details about your added printing, and we will invoice you accordingly. Once orders have shipped, we can no longer make changes.
You can also place additional orders, adding a note at checkout to combine with your existing order, and we will do our best to ensure they get combined appropriately.
How long will my order take to fill?
Our fulfillment team is working as fast as possible to prepare your orders. In general, we fill orders within 2 business days, and it's often quicker. We will let you know as soon as it is ready to pick up or it ships. If you haven't heard from us, check your Spam box!
Can you print in colour?
Yes! There's no extra charge for colour printing, but you have to request colour in the notes when you place your order. By default, we print in greyscale.
Do you roll or fold my patterns?
For shipped orders, we can either roll or fold your patterns. This is an option that you choose at checkout, after entering your address and before paying. Rolled shipping costs a little extra.
For orders picked up in Waterloo or delivered locally in Kitchener and Waterloo, prints are rolled by default. But we can fold them if you ask, just leave us a note on your order.
For orders picked up at Shoppe & Tailor Studios or Riverside Fabrics in Toronto, prints are folded. At this time, there is no rolled option, as the rolls don't fit in the packages that we send.
Can you tell me when you are getting X in / can you put me on a waiting list?
Right now the shop is only a printshop, but schemes are always afoot. We can't currently say when anything new will come out, but we recommend you stay subscribed to our newsletter and social media (links below) to hear when anything new and fun happens!
Do you recommend any fabric shops or places to take classes?
We are super glad you asked! While Spool & Spindle used to be our favourite local place to get fabric and take classes, we have found a few alternatives that we love. Here are some Ontario ideas.
Where can I get custom sewing or alterations done?
Although we don't sew on commission or do alterations, we know a couple of wonderful local sewists who do:
