Updated 2025: Free Pickup Options

We hear you: shipping is expensive! You find a great source for something you need, only to realize that they aren't quite local enough for you to do free pickup. But it feels wasteful to pay for shipping when it's sooo close!

That's why Spool & Spindle have teamed up with two amazing Toronto sewing businesses to provide free pickup. We send a bundle to one or the other every week on Tuesday, for pickup starting later that week. They are at opposite ends of the city, so you can choose the schedule and location that works best for you.

Shoppe and Tailor Studios logo

Location 1: Shoppe & Tailor Studios in the West end.

Unit 167 - 163 Sterling Rd, Toronto (Near Dundas & Bloor)

Pickup Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm (closed holidays)

Place your order by 11am every second Tuesday, re-starting on May 13, 2025. The bundle will ship Tuesday afternoon, for pickup starting by Friday.

Riverside Fabrics

Location 2: Riverside Fabrics East of the DVP.

1007 Gerrard Street East, Toronto (near Gerrard Square)

Pickup Monday to Friday, 10am to 8pm, or Saturday and Sunday 11am to 4pm. (closed holidays)

Place your order by 11am every second Tuesday, starting on May 20, 2025. The bundle will ship Tuesday afternoon, for pickup starting by Friday.

Bonus: even if you aren't local to Toronto, you can save some shipping by having your Riverside Fabrics and Spool & Spindle printing shipped together! Place your order for printing, with Riverside pickup. Then add this product to your Riverside order, with your printing order number. They will hold your fabric order at the shop until the printing arrives, and mail them together!

How to:

  • Place your printing order on our website as usual.
  • When you check out, select "Pickup in store" for delivery (not Ship).
  • Click on the pickup location to see the other store options. Select one of the Toronto locations; the date of the next shipment at each location is shown.
  • If there are any order questions or issues, the team here at S&S will contact you. Otherwise, the order will be printed and shipped with the next bundle!
  • You will get a message from us when the package arrives in Toronto, so you know when you can pick up.

Shoppe & Tailor Studios is all-around a wonderful space with lovely people. While they no longer have workspaces and equipment to rent, they still hold events, classes, and private sewing lessons.

You can find all the details on their website and their Instagram.

Riverside Fabrics is a gorgeous fabric shop with both online and in-person shopping. They specialize in garment fabrics, notions, and tools, and are available to help you choose just the right fabric for that pattern you printed!

You can shop on their website, or see their Instagram for the latest news.

KW Garment Sewists Guild logo

Another pickup option is the KW Garment Sewists Guild meetings! This new group of Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge-Guelph garment sewists aims to keep our community connected with regular in person and online meetings, sew-a-longs, and a Discord server for chatting between meetings.

They hold monthly meetings Sept-May, and for most in-person meetings, you can place an order up to the day of the meeting for free delivery! Just choose the Free Local Pickup option when you place your order, and either add a note or send an email to let us know that you'd like meeting pickup. We'll try to remind you on Instagram or our newsletter as the meetings approach.

The best way to reach the guild is to check out their Instagram or their website! They also have a great online community on the Discord server.

And in another change for spring 2025, your main source for pickups is now just down the road from the printshop, at Flying Squirrel Fine Yarns! They have a great location with transit and free parking, and much better hours. Here are the details.

Unless you arrange printshop pickup ahead of time, all orders will be taken directly to the Flying Squirrel. By the time you get your pickup notice, your printing is already there and ready.

Do you know of a Sewists Guild or fabric shop who might want to partner with us to offer pattern pickup? Let them (and us) know! The best way we find out where people want to pick up patterns is if you tell us!
